DMV Glass & Window

Foggy window glass: what to check.

The location of condensation matters. Moisture on a surface and moisture between sealed panes can have different explanations.

Which surface is fogging?

Condensation on the room-side surface can be related to indoor humidity and glass temperature. Condensation outside can occur when weather conditions cool the exterior surface. Moisture trapped between panes can indicate a problem with the insulated glass unit’s seal.

Describe the pattern.

Does it appear only in the morning? Can you wipe it away from either side? Is there a persistent haze between the panes? These observations help explain what you are seeing without requiring you to disassemble the window.

Glass replacement may be an option.

If the frame is in good condition, it may be possible to replace a sealed glass unit rather than the entire window. Dimensions and glass specifications should be confirmed before ordering.
